Captain America: Brave New World (2024) | Release date, Cast, Trailer, Behind the scenes

Sam Wilson, as Captain America, is the subject of the next American superhero movie Captain America: Brave New World, which is being distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and produced by Marvel Studios. It is planned to be the 35th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the fourth episode in the Captain America film series, and a continuation of the television miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021). Anthony Mackie plays Sam Wilson/Captain America in the movie, which is directed by Julius Onah and also features Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Harrison Ford, and Liv Tyler. The script was co-written by Onah, Malcolm Spellman, and Dalan Musson.

Chris Evans' portrayal of Steve Rogers in the Captain America trilogy was concluded in Captain America: Civil War (2016). By April 2021, Spellman and Musson—both writers on the series—were working on a new Captain America movie; Mackie had signed on that August. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Mackie's character, Wilson, was introduced as the next Captain America. When Captain America: New World Order's title was made public in July 2022, Onah joined. In September, more cast members were made public. In addition to additional filming in Washington, D.C., Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, hosted the shooting from March to June 2023. During production, the name was changed to Captain America: Brave New World.

Release Date

The American debut of Captain America: Brave New World is set for July 26, 2024. The prior date for it was May 3, 2024. It will be a part of the MCU's fifth phase.

Cast

Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson or Captain America :

Anthony Mackie

Producer Nate Moore compared Wilson's Captain America to Rocky Balboa from the Rocky movie series as a "underdog in any situation" because he lacks Steve Rogers' characteristics, and he predicted that Wilson would have to prove himself worthy of the role after claiming it on his own. Mackie described Wilson as "more of a humane" Captain America as opposed to one of "judgment" because he has "a very different understanding of what it is to be a good guy, o Mackie claimed that his portrayal of Wilson for the movie was best exemplified by the Tupac Shakur song "Hit 'Em Up" (1996). Wilson's path "stepping up to be the leader as Captain America" will be explored, according to director Julius Onah.

Shira Haas as Sabra :

Shira Haas

a superheroine from Israel. Sabra's inclusion in the movie was criticized because some people thought it would encourage stereotypical portrayals of Palestinians and Arabs; in the comics, she works for the Mossad, and many of the Arab characters she meets are violent, misogynistic, and antisemitic. Since the character's name has diverse connotations for Israeli Jews and Palestinians, it also drew criticism. The comics did not, according to writer and commentator Yousef Munayyer, who is Palestinian-American, suggest "anything positive" about her on-screen persona since it "is insensitive and disgraceful" to make Israeli spies into heroes.

Seth Rollins :

Harrison Ford as Thaddeus (Thunderbolt) Ross :

The US President Prior to becoming the US Secretary of State, he served as a general in the US Army. With producer Kevin Feige adding that their dynamic has changed since they are now Captain America and President, respectively, Moore predicted that there would be "some natural sparks" between Wilson and Ross as a result of the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016). William Hurt, who played the role in earlier MCU movies until his passing in 2022, is replaced by actor Harrison Ford.
Liv Tyler as Betty Ross

Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns or Leader :

a cellular biologist who, during the events of The Incredible Hulk (2008), came into contact by mistake with Bruce Banner's blood while working on a potential treatment for his illness, giving him superhuman intelligence. One of the factors that drew Onah to the project was the inclusion of the Leader, who would provide Wilson with a strong foe and put him "through the wringer" as the Leader is an intelligent character.

Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres or Falcon

Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley

Xosha Roquemore

About

After Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), which starred Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige stated in October 2015 that Captain America: Civil War (2016) marked the culmination of the Captain America trilogy. Evans' final contracted solo Captain America film was Civil War, but he was open to having his deal extended to include Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Evans was reportedly on the verge of agreeing to reprise his performance as Steve Rogers in at least one upcoming project in January 2021. Evans' participation was considered to be comparable to Robert Downey Jr., another star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who played Tony Stark in supporting roles in other film series, such as Civil War.

By October 2018, Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson/Winter Soldier from the MCU films was the star of a limited series that Marvel Studios was creating for Disney+. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was officially revealed as the title of the television series in April 2019. Malcolm Spellman was hired as the series' chief writer. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic's effect on movie theaters, Mackie stated before the series' launch that there had been no negotiations about a second season. He also indicated he was unsure of when he will next feature in an MCU movie. Kari Skogland, the show's director, expressed uncertainty about the possibility of a second season, saying that the first told the tale she wanted to tell but that a second would allow for the exploration of more plots and characters. Feige stated that there were ideas for "another one" should it be produced, but Marvel wanted WandaVision (2021), a companion Disney+ series, to serve as a prequel to future MCU films. He continued by saying that he didn't want to give away the plot by announcing a second season or talking about the intentions Marvel had for the show's characters before it was fully published. Executive producer of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Nate Moore stated in April 2021 that the series' conclusion will reveal plot elements for a potential second season and that the show covered "evergreen" subjects that begged for additional investigation.

After the season finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, "One World, One People," aired on April 23, 2021, it was made known that Spellman and Dalan Musson, who authored "Truth," were working on the script for a fourth Captain America movie. With Evans' rumored return as Rogers anticipated in a different project, the movie was supposed to follow Wilson following the events of the television series. The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit and Aaron Couch highlighted that John Walker, Wilson, and Rogers had all played Captain America in the MCU by this point, and it would be intriguing to see the movie's main focus. Producing the movie with Feige is Moore. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier has no plans for a sequel or film, but Mackie is "excited to see what happens" and says he has no other way to put into words how "monumental" it is to play the title role in an MCU movie as a Black actor. In the following months, Mackie shopped around for a role in the movie, finally agreeing to play it in August.
Under the working title Rochelle Rochelle, principal photography got underway at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 21, 2023. Kramer Morgenthau served as the film's cinematographer.

According to Avery, Onah did not view Marvel in the "normal way" and that the production team took a forward-thinking approach, Onah wanted to include action in the movie that was "grounded and tactile" and offered Wilson things to accomplish that were not seen in his previous appearances. He continued by saying that, in contrast to some of the previous MCU releases, the company was attempting something different with this movie by making it based in reality. By the end of March 2023, Liv Tyler had joined the cast and was reprising her role as Betty Ross from The Incredible Hulk. At the time, it was anticipated that Julia Louis-Dreyfus will return to the movie to reprise her MCU role as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Marvel Studios allegedly planned to shoot as much as they could during main filming and make any required writing revisions during the film's already scheduled reshoots, so the commencement of the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike was not anticipated to have an influence on production of the movie. Seth Rollins joined the cast later that month, as seen in set images.

The movie was given the new title Captain America: Brave New World in the beginning of June. It "strikes a far more optimistic perspective than New World Order, doubling as a commentary on the future of the famous superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and as a statement on some very overdue representation," according to Jeremy Mathai at /Film, who also appreciated the subtitle change. Hilary Remley of Collider referred to the alteration as a "wise decision" and pointed out that the previous title might have been regarded as having antisemitic overtones. At that point, it became known that Spellman and Onah wrote the script together. The publication date of Brave New World was postponed until July 26, 2024, at the middle of the month.
