The next Indian epic science fiction film Kalki 2898 AD (Project K) is written and directed by Nag Ashwin. Under the auspices of Vyjayanthi Movies, C. Aswani Dutt is in charge of producing it. Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani are among the ensemble cast members of the movie.

The movie's release was announced in February 2020 in conjunction with Vyjayanthi Movies' 50th anniversary under the working title Project K. However, the COVID-19 epidemic caused a year-long production delay. On a futuristic set at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, filming commenced in July 2021. Telugu and Hindi were used for the simultaneous filming.

The cost of Kalki 2898 AD, which is 600 crore, makes it the most costly Indian movie ever made. Santhosh Narayanan created the soundtrack for the movie; Djordje Stojiljkovic shot it, and Nitin Zihani Choudhary did the production design. The movie Kalki 2898 AD is slated for release in theaters in 2024.

The screenplay of the movie, which takes place in the far-off year 2898 AD, deftly combines science fiction themes with an engaging plot. As the teaser begins, a menacing voiceover declares, "When the world is overtaken by darkness, a force rises," setting the stage for the heroic story that follows.

In the middle of the pandemonium, Padukone's character, who plays an army recruit, shows her courage and resolve. On the other hand, Prabhas represents a valiant warrior against the oppressive control of dark forces.

Release Date

Kalki 2898 AD (Project K) is set to be release in theatres on 12 January 2024. The film is available in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and English languages also.

        

Storyline

According to the belief, the dharma will be lost during the current Kaliyuga, and the unjust would govern the world. The Hindu god Vishnu's final manifestation, Kalki, will make an appearance at the conclusion of the Kaliyuga to vanquish the evil.

The world of the end of the Kaliyuga, where darkness has taken hold, is the one we see in Kalki 2898 AD. In "Kalki 2898 AD," Prabhas is portrayed as the force that would emerge to put an end to the shadows. In the sci-fi thriller set in the future, Prabhas looked gorgeous. Amitabh Bachchan appears to be the oppressive king, while Deepika Padukone plays a soldier. Kalki is probably based on the appearance of the real Kalki avatar, which has already been addressed in our films as a belief, according to the title and the sneak peek.

The movie's regular shoot was initially scheduled to start in November 2020. But because of the COVID-19 epidemic, it was put off until the next year. Following a muhurat filmed with Bachchan, principal photography began in Hyderabad in July 2021 on the festival of Guru Purnima. In December 2021, Prabhas and Padukone joined the project, and scenes starring Bachchan, Prabhas, and Padukone were filmed. The shoot's second schedule happened in February 2022.

The team broke up the 80–90 days of shooting the movie into 7-8 days each month rather than doing it all at once. This would give the production crew time to gather the equipment and items needed for this science fiction movie. As a result, it is anticipated that the film's production would take longer than usual. The film was shot on a DIY Arrii Alexa 65 camera, making it the first Indian movie to employ this technology.

Although "Project K" was only used as a working title, the movie was known by that name. According to Ashwin, the movie required the development of future vehicles and cutting-edge technology. Although they can be reconstructed using computer-generated graphics, Ashwin chose to build these vehicles from the ground up with a committed team of engineers because he wanted them to seem "authentic and genuine". Ashwin asked technical assistance from billionaire Anand Mahindra to construct this kind of vehicle in March 2022.

The movie was scheduled to wrap up principal photography by January 2023, after which post-production and visual effects work would take about 8 to 9 months. However, when Bachchan hurt his ribs and needed rest in Mumbai in March 2023, the movie was still being filmed. By June 2023, almost 75% of the filming had been finished.

A. R. Rahman was initially contacted to write the soundtrack for the movie in 2020. Ashwin kept the crew from his previous movie Mahanati, including composer Mickey J. Meyer and cinematographer Dani Sanchez-Lopez. Rahman did not sign the movie. Dani Sanchez-Lopez, however, was eventually replaced as the movie's official cinematographer by Serbian photographer Djordje Stojiljkovic. Meyer was replaced as the composer in February 2023, according to Dutt, and a female Bollywood composer who had already written a song for the movie, Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, joined the project to act as a mentor.

Casting Information

Deepika Padukone, a leading lady in Hindi films, was cast opposite Prabhas in the major role in July 2020. While Ashwin said that her part would be "surprise" because it was something that "no mainstream lead has done before," Padukone expressed that she was "beyond thrilled" to be working on the project. Padukone makes her Telugu cinematic debut with this movie.

According to Bollywood Hungama, her role was initially "not substantial" but was later enhanced to reflect her prominence. Amitabh Bachchan was given a full-length role in the movie in October. According to Ashwin, his part was "so important that his character's name was the working title of an early draft". Bachchan's first feature-length role since Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (2019) and Manam (2014).

One of Prabhas' most ambitious projects to date has been Kalki 2898 AD, a pan-Indian drama. The movie is helmed by Nag Ashwin and stars Deepika Padukone, a well-known Bollywood actress, as the female lead.

Kamal Haasan plays the enemy in this mythical sci-fi movie, which heightens the mystery. Exciting social media talks indicate that Kamal Haasan will start filming for Kalki 2898 AD in mid-September and finish up by the end of November. This rumor has not, however, received formal confirmation.

Another intriguing element is the potential for SS Rajamouli to appear in the film in a cameo role. The movie is made by Vyjayanthi Movies and stars a prestigious cast that includes Disha Patani, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Pasupathy. Santhosh Narayanan is the music director. This is a hugely ambitious filmmaking endeavor.

The first trailer for the movie was unveiled on July 19, 2023. After receiving harsh feedback, its creators later removed it from social media accounts and re-uploaded it with some tweaks, which also drew criticism. The movie's new title was formally revealed at the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con, when the teaser trailer also had its debut. At the occasion, Nag Ashwin, Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, and C. Aswani Dutt were in attendance.
