Dhruva Natchathiram - Part 1 is a Indian Spy and Action movie. The movie is directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon. Leading the ensemble cast are Ritu Varma, R. Parthiban, Radhika Sarathkumar, Simran, and Vinayakan, with Vikram in the lead role. Harris Jayaraj composed the film's music, while Anthony handled the editing and Manoj Paramahamsa, S. R. Suriya was cast in the film when it was first announced in 2013, but Menon halted the movie claiming creative differences with the actor some months later. Later, in the middle of 2015, he alluded to the possibility of a revival and spoke with a number of actors to choose the leading man before choosing Vikram. Due to Menon's financial difficulties and the COVID-19 pandemic, the film, which started production in 2017 and was filmed in seven locations, was stuck in production hell for years until wrapping it in February 2023.
The film was originally shot as a single film, but it was eventually divided into two parts because the production's initial footage clocked in at over four and a half hours.

After the box office triumphs of Vaaranam Aayiram (2008) and Kaakha Kaakha (2003), director Gautham Vasudev Menon and Suriya started talking about collaborating on a new film. Following the rejection of two scripts, one for the spy-thriller movie Dhruva Natchathiram and another for the flicks Enai Noki Paayum Thota and Thuppariyum Anandhan, Suriya was impressed and got the job.
In April 2013, the team unveiled a set of posters revealing that Menon would also be producing the movie, which will have twelve key characters. In May 2013, the director's office hosted the formal film premiere. During that month, a few test shots were also shot.
The movie's soundtrack composer, A. R. Rahman, was officially confirmed, while Rajeevan and Anthony were named as the art director and editor, respectively. Later in the month, Menon revealed that Simran and R. Parthiban have been cast in supporting parts. Arun Vijay and Sudhanshu Pandey, two actors, were also cast in roles that had a negative tone.
After rumors circulated that Asin, Sameera Reddy, Amala Paul, and Priya Anand were being considered for the lead female role in the movie, Trisha was cast for the part. But the movie's initial release date was continually pushed back, and by October 2013, Menon and Suriya had split, alleging artistic disagreements.
Menon had been working on the story for six months without seeing any progress of this kind, and Suriya revealed in a press release that he could not wait any longer because he had committed to other projects. He also mentioned that in early 2004, the two had a similarly fruitless experience shooting a movie called Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikaalam.
