Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a American Science fiction Action movie. The movie is directed by Wes Ball. It is the fourth entry in the Planet of the Apes reboot series and acts as the follow-up to War for the Planet of the Apes (2017). In addition to Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy, Owen Teague plays the movie's primary role.

After Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, work on a new Planet of the Apes movie commenced in April 2019. Ball was confirmed as the film's writer and director that December. Casting for the film will begin in June 2022, after the script is finished. A significant portion of the story was written in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. That August, Teague was cast for the lead part; in the months that followed, the title and other cast members were disclosed. Sydney hosted principal photography starting in October 2022 and ending in February 2023.

The movie story is about Ape civilizations have emerged from the oasis to which Caesar led his fellow apes, and humans have regressed into a wild state, generations after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes (2017). A common chimpanzee named Noa sets out on a perilous journey with a young human named Mae to discover the fate of both humans and apes when the ape leader Proximus Caesar twists Caesar's teachings to subjugate other clans in pursuit of the final remnants of human technologies.

In October of 2016, filmmaker Matt Reeves, of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017), revealed his thoughts for a fourth movie in the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise. Following the release of War in the middle of 2017, Reeves and co-writer Mark Bomback indicated their continued interest in sequels. 

Reeves stated that Bad Ape, played by Steve Zahn, created a "much larger" primate world than simply Caesar's troop of apes. He also mentioned that there are apes "who grew up without the benefit of Caesar's leadership" and implied that if Caesar's apes came into contact with these outsiders, there would likely be violence.

"It seemed like there was just one more major story to tell," Bomback thought, describing how Caesar "became this Moses figure in the Apes world." He hinted that the sequel might be directed by different people and that it might take place hundreds of years after the War. In spite of this, he made it clear that no discussions had taken place regarding a possible sequel, saying he wanted to "take a breather and let things rest a bit."

Steve Asbell, president of 20th Century Studios, said in March 2022 that he anticipated receiving a script draft soon and that production would start by the end of the year. After the script was finished the previous month, Oddball Entertainment and Shinbone Productions were also scheduled to produce the movie by June. 

Meanwhile, a search was under way for the film's lead actor. In September 2022, the title of the movie—Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes—was disclosed. It was also stated that the movie is set several years after the events of War. Ball was no longer listed as the screenwriter; instead, Jaffa, Silver, and Patrick Aison joined the writing team. Starke was no longer anticipated to act as producer; instead, Jason Reed and Jenno Topping were named as executive producers and producers, respectively.

 

Owen Teague, who plays the main motion-capture character in the movie, joined the cast in August 2022. Following the announcement of the film's title and release year in the previous month, Freya Allan and Peter Macon, as well as Kevin Durand and Eka Darville, joined the cast in October. Later same month, Travis Jeffery, Neil Sandilands, Sara Wiseman, Lydia Peckham, and Ras-Samuel Weld A'abzgi were added to the cast; in January and February of 2023, respectively, William H. Macy and Dichen Lachman were cast.
