In Lal Salaam, Rajinikanth portrays Moideen Bhai, a character that is vital to both friendship and cricket. Notably, as he handles the music and background score for the film, this is A.R. Rahman's first working with director Aishwarya Rajinikanth, Vishnu, and Vikranth.

November 2022 saw the release of the movie and the reveal of its title. March 2023 marked the start of principal photography, which ended in August 2023. A. R. Rahman composed the soundtrack for the movie, while B. Pravin Baaskar handled the editing and Vishnu Rangasamy took care of the photography.

Aishwarya Rajinikanth was rumored to be directing a film in October 2022, with Atharvaa playing the lead and Rajinikanth making a lengthy cameo. But in November, Aishwarya revealed on social media the details of her upcoming feature film, Lal Salaam, which is directed by her and features Vikranth and Rajinikanth in the key parts and Vishnu Vishal as a cricket player.

While a muhurat puja was conducted in December 2022, the main photography started on March 7, 2023, in Chennai. In Chennai, the first program concluded in April. In Mumbai, the second schedule started in May. That month, Rajinikanth was added to the schedule. That month, Kapil Dev, a former cricket player, also joined the schedule. 

Team relocated to Pondicherry in June. By July 12th, Rajinikanth had completed his portions. In July, the team finished filming the second schedule. By August 5th, Vishnu had completed his half as well. The main photography was completed on August 7th.
