The Archies Movie Review

Even having a bright new generation of stars in the ensemble, the film was, at best, incredibly dull.

I'll admit that I've been waiting for this film for a while because it seemed to have everything I was interested in learning about before it came out: a prequel to a well-known franchise, a film starring Zoya Akhtar, and all the new stars the public wanted to see how they would make their screen debuts. Sadly, the film ended on a disappointing note.

The main story arch of saving the park was very poor in term of building curiosity and a compelling tale, the characters seem to have very little chemistry with one another- making me, as an audience, not really care about them individually and ultimately any conflicts that happen between them.

The parents being showcased so much was also a lil funny because none of them had any parts to add value to the storyline (I know how it shows that the kids are more courageous and more expressive in standing up for their values but it felt repetitive after some point)- it would have been okay even if they were left out, making it feel unnecessary.

The Archies Movie 2023 Review: Is it worth watching or not?

Since the dynamics between Betty, Veronica, and Archie have always been so complex, I wish the film had gone deeper into the subject, highlighted the messiness, and addressed it head-on rather than in a PG-13 manner. The entire dynamic between Betty, Veronica, and Archie was also handled very superficially. It seemed like the recipe was "conflict -> the power of friendship -> everyone happy."

Is it worth watching or not?

In the end, the entire film felt like an extended Scooby Doo episode in which the gang attempts to solve yet another enigma (which, regrettably, never is resolved because the issue throughout was the film itself).

The ultimate keyword thought is: "Good timepass film; can skip watch but can't guilt watch it either; it's not bad enough to hate watch happily, but it's not that good either."
